A lesson in learning
Ever see a video online and thought to yourself “Hey! I can do that!” Only to try and for it to turn into one of those embarrassing memes of ‘how I thought it would turn out’ versus ‘how it actually turned out’?
Well, if you have, you’re not alone. And there is a reason for this. What might seem easy for an expert often requires a wealth of knowledge that, to the expert, is so basic that they take that knowledge for granted. Often, that knowledge is not even conveyed in the lesson you just watched.
Unfortunately for the novice, that knowledge is often so far out of reach that they don’t even know that they don’t know that they don’t know it!
So, how do you go about getting this type of knowledge?
That’s a great question!
Check out my video where I explore this exact issue by watching a popular art instruction video classed as ‘easy’. In the video I get to ask real questions that a beginner would ask. And I get to ask them of an amazingly talented artist: Kirsten Button.
Hopefully we can come away from this knowing a little bit more about what we don’t know.
